Bassett High School alum Monique Rodriguez credited Bassett Unified’s early childhood education program for setting her on the path to personal and professional success, during a special ribbon-cutting ceremony held Oct. 30 for the Flanner Early Childhood Development Center.
Bassett Unified will provide technology devices to students in transitional kindergarten through grade 12 and connect Bassett families to low-cost home internet service as part of the District’s Digital Learning Initiative (DLI), a four-year rollout that starts in August.
Bassett Unified eighth-grade students slathered their hands with hand sanitizer before placing them inside a cardboard box. The students then peeked inside the box from an opening on the top and saw a special light illuminating the lingering germs on their palms and under their fingernails.

Bassett High senior Huong Nguyen was awarded a $1,000 scholarship during Kaiser Permanente Health Academy’s Recognition Ceremony – an achievement she credits to the support of Linda Howard, the program’s 15-year coordinator.
